INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women's tennis team begins its Spring season on Saturday when it welcomes Dayton to the West Indy Racquet Club.
The Jaguars take on the Flyers at 2 p.m., and it will be the first of two matches at the West Indy Racquet Club on Saturday as the men's team will also take on Dayton at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday's season-opener will be the only chance to see IUPUI at home for the next month and a half. Following the match against the Flyers, the Jaguars next nine matches will be played away from home prior to hosting Green Bay on March 1.
"I am looking forward to our spring season. The girls worked very hard in the Fall and we are ready to get better," Smirnova said after the Jags were picked seventh in the Summit League Preseason Poll. "We have very talented, hard-working freshmen that brought a positive dynamic to our team."
Those three freshman set to make their IUPUI debut are
Samantha Mayer,
Valeriia Lavrenchuk and
Marina Schneiger, and they join four returners in
Bobbi Modesto,
Abbey Neff,
Rachel Swartwood and
Rachael Bridegroom.
The Jags and Flyers met last year in Dayton and it was IUPUI that came away with the 4-2 win. In the victory, both Neff and Modesto claimed singles wins.
