INDIANAPOLIS - After opening the regular season with four consecutive road matches, the IUPUI men's soccer team will finally play on its home turf this weekend when the Jaguars host Dayton and Northern Kentucky. IUPUI (1-3) will host the Flyers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night (Sept. 19) before welcoming NKU at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 21). Sunday's match is the second half of a doubleheader as the women's team will take on Indiana State at 1:00 p.m..

As part of Youth Soccer Month, the IUPUI Athletics Department is encouraging local youth players to attend and will distribute giveaway items, courtesy of Indiana Soccer. With it being Regatta Weekend, there are also alumni events throughout the weekend, including a golf outing on Saturday and get-togethers surrounding both Friday and Sunday's matches.

"We're excited to be home and playing at Carroll (Stadium)," IUPUI Head Coach Isang Jacob said. "It's going to be an exciting weekend for our boys. We're expecting two great crowds from our home fans and hopefully we put on quite a show for those who come out to support our men. We're facing two really quality opponents, so we're expecting it to be two outstanding matches."

On the field, IUPUI is coming off a 3-1 road win at Houston Baptist University, thanks to goals from Jonny Williams, Joshua Ayala and Emmanuel Usen. The Jaguars trailed 1-0 at halftime, but pulled even on Williams' first goal of the season. Later, Ayala scored the game-winner on a brilliant free kick and Usen added late insurance when he deposited his second goal of the season. Junior goalie Eduardo Cortes came off the bench to author a scoreless second half and earn his first win of the year.

"It was a quality outcome for our boys," Jacob said of the HBU win. "Houston Baptist is a quality side. We had the better run of play and finally got on the board with Jonny's goal. After that, our spirits rose and you could tell that good things were going to happen. It was a very professional trip for us in that our boys represented the university well and we got a positive outcome on the field."

Usen has two of the Jaguars' five goals on the year, all of which have come in the past two outings. Cortes leads IUPUI's goalkeepers with a 1.67 goals against average and has made 10 saves in his two appearances.

Dayton (2-2-1) in unbeaten in its past three matches, including wins over Detroit and Jacksonville. James Haupt and Brian Richards lead the Flyers with two goals each and Rafael Gamboa has three assists from his midfield position. Chris Froschauer has played every minute in goal for the Flyers, notching a 0.76 goals against average and 23 saves in five starts. IUPUI is 0-2 all-time against the Flyers, with both matches having been played in the Buckeye State. The Jaguars lost last year's meeting 2-0 on the road.

NKU (1-1-3) played IPFW to a 1-1 draw last weekend and has scored a single goal in all five games so far this season. Caleb Eastham has three of NKU's five scores and Cian McDonald has a team-high two assists. A.J. Fleak has been dependable in net for the Norse, notching a 0.88 goals against average and 26 saves in more than 514 minutes of action. IUPUI is 1-2-1 all-time against NKU and 1-1-1 in the program's Division I era (1998-pres.). The two teams played to a scoreless draw in Highland Heights, Ky., last season and the Jaguars won the 2012 meeting at Carroll Stadium, 1-0. Cortes earned the win in that contest, making seven saves in the shutout.
