CHICAGO - The IUPUI women's soccer team was unable to string together consecutive victories, losing by a 2-0 count to UIC at Flames Field on Sunday (Aug. 31). The Jaguars yielded goals in each half to the Flames, who claimed their first win in the history of their program.

"That's not the resolution we were hoping for in this game," IUPUI Head Coach Chris Johnson said. "As good as things looked on Friday, they looked that bad today. I thought we made good progress on Friday in terms of stepping up and being aggressive and today we did the exact opposite of that. We didn't come out hard, we didn't come out strong and didn't come out aggressive and let them bring the game to us and just reacted to what they were doing and it did not go well at all."

UIC (1-4) dominated the early run of play before finally capitalizing in the 11th minute when Flo Beshiri scored from in close after a Christina Hovatter corner kick. The Flames took a 1-0 lead to the locker room and the Jaguars' attack was unlucky in trying to draw even in the second stanza.

Both Catherine Raster and Tori Minnich had quality chances early in the second half and senior Taylor Heidorn had a shot hit off the post in the 67th minute. Instead of clinging for dear life, the Flames added insurance in the 74th minute when Jasmin Carrera got a shot past freshman goalie Catherine Schmidt for her third score of the year.

Carrera carried the ball from just inside midfield to the top of the Jaguars' 18 before angling a shot past the IUPUI netminder.

UIC ultimately outshot IUPUI 15-10 and 9-5 on target. Sophomore Nicole Kulovitz made seven saves in nearly 60 minutes of work while Schmidt went without a stop in her near 30 minutes. Kelly Fritz made five saves for the Flames to earn the shutout.

Freshman Krissy Kirkhoff led the Jaguars with three shots, putting two on frame.

The Jaguars will return home to host Xavier at Michael A. Carroll Stadium at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Admission to all IUPUI home soccer matches is free of charge, although standard university parking rates do apply.
