DAYTON, Ohio - It's been a long road for the Jaguars, but Saturday in Dayton they finally got over the hump and notched their first win of the season, 4-2 over Dayton.

All three doubles matches were closely contested, but Dayton took all three and the early 1-0 lead. 

Needing four points from singles, IUPUI made quick work in three matches. Abbey Neff won 6-2, 6-3 and both Vanessa Whyte and Julie Brockman won 6-4, 6-3. Needing just one more point, both Rachel Swartwood's and Bobbi Modesto's matches went to third sets and Modesto came out on top in the tiebreak, winning 6-2, 5-7, 7-6. The match was secure and IUPUI had won, so Swartwood's match was called.

With their first win of the season, the Jaguars ended a nine-match losing streak and earned bragging rights over Dayton from last year's close 4-3 defeat. 

"It definitely felt good to get the first win," said interim head coach Yulia Smirnova. "especially over a team that we lost to in a very close match last year."

Whyte, Modesto, Brockman and Neff each recorded their second win of the season as well. With Brockman's win last week over Xavier's Megan Morris at No. 6 singles, she's now won two in a row. 

With the Evansville match cancelled due to weather, IUPUI will have its chance at two in a row next Saturday (March 8) against Indiana in Bloomington. The match will start play at 4 p.m.
