OMAHA, Neb. - The IUPUI men's soccer team will cap the 2014 regular season on Saturday (Nov. 8) when the Jaguars take on Summit League foe Omaha at Caniglia Field at 2:00 p.m. Eastern. IUPUI is vying for a spot in the four-team Summit League Tournament and can still earn a share of the league's regular season title with a victory and a Western Illinois loss later that night. Five of the league's seven teams are sitting at .500 heading into the weekend, including Fort Wayne, which finished the league slate at 3-3.

IUPUI (5-7-3, 2-2-1) is among four teams at 2-2-1, joining Denver, Omaha and Oral Roberts. Western Illinois tops the league standings at 3-1-1 and Eastern Illinois is 1-3-1.

"We've put ourselves in a position where we control our destiny," IUPUI Head Coach Isang Jacob said. "Omaha will be ready for us. They're a quality side that's very well coached. They're a very good team at home so we'll certainly have our work cut out for us."

The Jaguars haven't allowed a goal in more than 230 minutes, coming off a 1-0 win over Denver and a scoreless draw with Detroit in a midweek, non-conference tilt. Junior goalie Eduardo Cortes has been hot of late, earning both shutouts and Summit League Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Monday. Freshman midfielder Joshua Ayala is the reigning Summit League Offensive Player of the Week after tallying the game-winner against Denver last Friday.

For the year, freshmen Uriel Macias (7 goals, 1 assist) and Emmanuel Usen (5 goals, 4 assists) lead the attack, combining for 12 of the Jaguars' 18 goals. Macias has attempted a team-high 37 shots and scored three of IUPUI's five game-winners. Usen is second on the squad with 28 shot attempts, including a team-high 17 shots on goal.

Cortes has emerged as IUPUI's best player of late, lowering his goals against average to 1.66 while collecting 70 saves in 11 games.

Scouting the Mavs
Omaha (7-5-2, 2-2-1) is 5-2 at home this season, including Summit League wins over Denver and Eastern Illinois. The Mavs, who are ineligible for postseason play in 2014, have gotten six goals and two assists from Vance Rookwood and a team-high seven assists from Mark Moulton. Logan Mendez is second on the team with four assists.

In goal, Josh Christensen and Joseph Ghitis have split the minutes nearly identically with each having started 14 times. Christensen has a 0.54 GAA, having yielded just four goals in seven contests. The duo has a combined 45 saves as Omaha has outshot their opponents by almost 2.5 shots per game. As a team, Omaha has outscored their foes 18-13 overall and 4-3 in Summit League play.

Inside the Series

IUPUI is 1-1 all-time against Omaha and 0-1 in the previous meeting in Nebraska. The Mavs won 2-0 on Sept. 29, 2012 before the Jaguars repaid the favor with a 1-0 overtime win in Indianapolis last October. IUPUI junior midfielder Lance Davis scored the game-winner that night at Carroll Stadium.
