MEN'S SOCCER TO HOST DETROIT IN FINAL NON-CONFERENCE MATCH OF 2014

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will host Detroit to finish off the non-conference slate on Tuesday night (Nov. 4) at 7:00 p.m. at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Admission to home soccer is free all season long and the IUPUI soccer program will recognize seniors Tyler Drumm and Matt Smith immediately before the game. 

IUPUI (5-7-2) is coming off a 1-0 Summit League win over Denver last Friday night, thanks to a late Joshua Ayala goal. Ayala used assists from freshmen teammates Uriel Macias and Emmanuel Usen before hitting a rocket into the upper corner for his second goal of the season. Junior goalie Eduardo Cortes was strong in goal, earning his first shutout of the season.

Both Ayala and Cortes earned Summit League Player of the Week honors on Monday.  

Macias continues to lead the Jaguars and is tied for the league lead with seven goals while Usen is second on the squad with 14 points (5 goals, 4 assists). Macias and Ayala have accounted for the team's five game-winners and the trio of Macias, Usen and Ayala have 14 of the Jaguars' 18 goals. Cortes has continued to improve his numbers, dropping his goals against average to 1.87 while upping his save percentage to .786 in 10 appearances. 

The Jaguars will cap the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Omaha at 2:00 p.m.. IUPUI enters the weekend vying for a spot in the upcoming four-team Summit League Tournament and can still capture a share of the league title. 

Scouting the Titans
Detroit is 9-5-3 overall and 6-1 in the Horizon League this season, including an impressive 6-3-2 mark away from home. Spiro Pliakos and Matt Ybarra lead the offense, having combined on 13 assists this season. Pliakos has four goals and seven assists while Ybarra has a pair of goals and six helpers on the year. Both Adam Clauss and Matt Harkema have both scored four goals each for the Titans. 

In goal, Nathan Steinwascher has a 0.83 goals against average in 16 appearances to go along with 69 saves. As a team, Detroit has outscored opponents 21-15 on the year and has a 0.83 GAA. 

Inside the Series
IUPUI is 2-4-1 all-time against Detroit, but unbeaten in the last three meetings between the two schools. The two sides played to a scoreless draw to open last season in Detroit on Aug. 30, 2013. Prior to that, IUPUI had won back-to-back meetings in Indianapolis, beating UD 2-1 in overtime on Sept. 1, 2009 and 2-0 on Aug. 24, 2012.

IUPUI is 2-2 in the four prior meetings in Indianapolis.

About the Seniors
Drumm, a Wichita, Kan.-native, has been named Academic All-Summit League each of the past two seasons. Primarily a defender, Drumm has appeared in 42 matches and made 27 starts heading into Tuesday's match. His lone career goal came against Fort Wayne last season, helping clinch a spot in the four-team Summit League Tournament. 

Smith, a native of England, has appeared in 15 matches and made one start prior to Tuesday's match. His lone collegiate start came at Cleveland State on Oct. 19, 2011. He made his college debut at Kentucky on Sept. 4 of his freshman campaign.
