South Dakota (Oct. 31 - 7:30 p.m.): Live StatsOmaha (Nov. 2 - 12:00 p.m.): Live StatsINDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will put a capper on the regular season this weekend when the Jaguars host South Dakota (Oct. 31) and Omaha (Nov. 2) in two important Summit League matches. Both contests are free and open to the public although standard university parking rates will apply.
The Campus Kitchen at IUPUI will be collecting non-perishable food items at Friday's doubleheader as part of a campus-wide food drive. Specifically, the Campus Kitchen is requesting cake/brownie mix, pasta, rice, spices and boxed potatoes.
Friday's match with South Dakota will start at approximately 7:30 p.m. after the men's match with Denver. Sunday's meeting with Omaha is slated to begin at noon and the IUPUI Athletics department will recognize the senior trio of
Taylor Heidorn,
Brenna Parks and
Anna Rode immediately after the match.
IUPUI (5-9-3, 3-3 Summit) has won three of its past four outings, including a 2-1 victory over Western Illinois last weekend. Heidorn and
Kalli Shepler-Tucker both scored their second goals of the season in the victory with the game-winner coming in the latter third of the second half. After scoring the game's first goal, Heidorn assisted on Shepler-Tucker's second goal in as many games for the winner. Freshman
Catherine Schmidt just missed earning her second career shutout before yielding a score in the 83rd minute.
Neither
Tori Minnich or
Krissy Kirkhoff factored in either of the Jaguars' goals in the win over WIU, but continue to rank among The Summit League leaders in scoring. Minnich has a team-high seven goals while Kirkhoff has six, including two game-winners. Shepler-Tucker continues to lead the squad with four assists from her midfield spot.
IUPUI enters the weekend sitting fifth in the nine-team standings while seeking a spot in the four-team postseason tournament. Denver (5-2) leads the pack while South Dakota State (4-2-1) is second. Omaha (3-1-2) and North Dakota State (3-2-2) are also ahead of the Jaguars.
Scouting the CoyotesUSD (9-6-2, 2-2-2) is coming off a 1-0 win over Oral Roberts earlier this week in a match played in Omaha. Taylor Nivala leads the Coyotes' high octane offense with eight goals while Corey Strang has five goals and five assists. The Yotes have outscored their opponents 38-17 on the year and has gotten multiple goals from nine different players this season.
Defensively, Mackenzie Viktor has played the majority of the team's minutes in goal, registering a 1.11 goals against average and 54 saves in 17 matches. She's notched four shutouts on the year and been part of four other shutouts while sharing minutes with reserve goalie Sydney Hardin.
Scouting the MavsOmaha (5-10-2, 3-1-2) dropped a 2-1 double overtime decision to Oral Roberts on Sunday for their first league loss of the year. It was the Mavs sixth overtime decision of the season, going 1-3-2 in those matches. Chelsi Rohloff has 10 goals and four assists to lead the attack while Anna Sibson has four tallies and three assists, primarily off the bench. Hayley Shelton has been UNO's leader in goal with a 1.53 GAA and 82 saves in her 14 starts. Three different goalies have started at least one game for the Mavs this season.
Inside the SeriesIUPUI is 2-0-3 all-time against South Dakota, having played the Yotes to three straight ties the past three seasons. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Vermillion, S.D., last season. IUPUI is 1-1 in the prior two meetings in Indianapolis including a 3-0 win at Kuntz Stadium on Sept. 19, 2008. The most recent meeting in Indy was a 0-0 tie on Sept. 28, 2012.
IUPUI is 2-0 all-time against Omaha, having won 2-1 in Indianapolis on Oct. 21, 2012 and 1-0 in Omaha last season.
About the SeniorsHeidorn, the 2011 Summit League Freshman of the Year, is a four-year letterwinner for the Jaguars. She was IUPUI's Offensive MVP after scoring a team-high 14 points in 2011. Entering this weekend, she's appeared in 74 matches and made 47 starts in her IUPUI career while totaling 11 goals and six assists. She ranks among the program's all-time leaders in goals, points and shot attempts.
Parks is the third sister to come through the IUPUI program, following older siblings Maeghan and Kelli to IUPUI. The versatile four-year letterwinner comes into the weekend having played in 50 career matches, including a career-best 17 appearances last season.
Rode, one of two Jags to start all 17 matches this season, has been a steadying influence for the program all four years of her collegiate career. She comes into this weekend having played in 74 matches and made 65 starts. Her lone career goal came at DePauw her sophomore year and she also has two career assists.
