INDIANAPOLIS - Seeking a treat, as opposed to a trick, the IUPUI men's soccer team will kickoff a Halloween doubleheader on Friday night (Oct. 31) when the Jaguars host Denver at 5:00 p.m. at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable item to Friday's matches to help stock the Campus Kitchen. Admission to IUPUI soccer is free of charge throughout the 2014 season but standard university parking rates may apply.

IUPUI (4-7-2, 1-2-1 Summit) is coming off a 1-1 draw with Summit League leader Western Illinois over the weekend, getting a league-high seventh goal from rookie Uriel Macias in the draw. Macias struck first with a score off assists from Ben Ogedegbe and Emmanuel Usen, putting the Jaguars in front early. WIU knotted the match early in the second half as the two sides eventually left with a point in the standings. Usen just missed winning it for the Jaguars in the final minutes, putting a tough angled shot off the post. Junior Eduardo Cortes collected a school record 16 saves in the draw, upping his season total to 62 for the year.

Macias (7 goals) and Usen (5 goals, 3 assists), both freshmen, continue to rank among the elite tandems in the league, while sophomore Cristian Soto also has three assists.

Cortes has come alive of late, dropping his goals against average to 2.09 and upping his save percentage to .775 in his nine appearances. IUPUI is 3-2-1 on the year at home and 1-0-1 in two Summit League contests.

Scouting the Pioneers
Denver (8-6-1, 2-1-1 Summit) currently sits second in The Summit League standings with wins over Oral Roberts and Fort Wayne. The Pioneers have alternated wins and losses the last five times out, including a 3-1 loss at Omaha last weekend. The Pios are led offensively by Eric Kronenberg (6 goals), Teddy Mullin (4 goals) and Brian Hoyt (4 goals). Four different DU players have three assists as they have collectively outscored their opponents 25-22 for the season. Denver is 8-0 at home and 0-6-1 away from CIBER Field this year.

In goal, Oliver Brown and Ryan Massey have both played extensive minutes with Massey earning the bulk of the time. Massey has a 1.65 goals against average and 15 saves in his 10 appearances while Brown owns a 0.96 GAA and nine saves in his six games. Denver has allowed just 49 shots on goal for the year and outshoots their opponents by more than five attempts per game.

Inside the Series
IUPUI is 1-2 all-time against Denver and 0-2 since the Pioneers joined The Summit League last season. IUPUI dropped a 4-0 decision in Denver on Oct. 12 last year and then was bounced from the postseason tournament by a 5-0 score by the top-seeded Pioneers. IUPUI beat Denver 1-0 behind Hall of Fame goalie Armando Femia on Sept. 24, 1999. Friday's match will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools in Indianapolis.
