INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will host the University of Cincinnati in non-league action at Carroll Stadium on Wednesday night (Oct. 15) for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. The Jaguars will wear pink jerseys on Wednesday in the ongoing support in the fight against breast cancer as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Wednesday's match is free and open to the public as standard university parking rates will apply.
IUPUI (4-8-3) is coming off a pivotal 2-1 win over Eastern Illinois over the weekend as rookie
Uriel Macias scored twice in the victory. Classmate
Emmanuel Usen setup both goals and a third freshman,
Joshua Ayala, was also credited with an assist on the game-winner. The Jaguars led nearly the entire first half before yielding a goal in the 45th minute. After the match was tied for much of the second half, Macias pocketed the game-winner on a blast from 25 yards out in the 65th minute.
Junior
Eduardo Cortes earned the win, making six saves in net.
Scouting the Bearcats
Cincinnati (3-6-3) is coming off a 3-1 loss to No. 16 South Florida after having played UConn to a scoreless tie earlier in the week. Junior John Manga leads the UC attack with eight goals in 12 games, including two of the Bearcats' three game-winners. Senior Ashani Walker has two goals and two assists and senior back Matt Remaley has a team-high three assists. In goal, Alex Gill has a 1.51 goals against average and 58 saves in 12 starts. UC has four shutouts on the season and been blanked four times as well.
Inside the Series
IUPUI is 1-2 all-time against Cincinnati in a series that dates back to September 2004. The Jaguars won the 2004 meeting by a 2-1 score in Cincinnati before dropping decisions in 2011 (4-1) and 2013 (2-1).
UC won last year's meeting on a goal as time expired as the Bearcats earned a late corner and whipped the ball into the Jaguars' box, leading to a Ben Keane goal in the closing seconds. The four officials converged for more than a minute before ultimately ruling good on the goal, ending the match.
IUPUI had pulled even in the 86th minute on a goal by
Jonny Williams and seemingly went ahead less than a minute later on a
Patrick Henry strike, but the goal was overruled due to an offsides call.
