INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will continue the current three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 11) when the Jaguars host Eastern Illinois in Summit League action at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium at noon. Admission is free for home soccer this season but standard university parking rates will apply. With the Indy Eleven hosting Minnesota United FC later in the evening, special parking restrictions will be in place.
IUPUI (2-6-1, 0-1 Summit) is seeking its first point of The Summit League schedule after an earlier 4-0 loss in Fort Wayne. The Jags stepped out of league action earlier this week in a 3-1 loss to Valparaiso as freshman
Jacob Singer scored his first collegiate goal in the defeat. Sophomore
Cristian Soto delivered his team-best second assist of the season, playing a long lead pass up the right-hand side to the rookie attacker.
The freshman duo of
Emmanuel Usen (4 goals) and
Uriel Macias (3 goals) continue to lead the attack while rookie midfielder
Joshua Ayala has a goal and an assist. In goal, sophomore
Christian Lomeli has a team-best 1.80 goals against average in his seven appearances while junior
Eduardo Cortes has a 2.84 mark in five showings.
As a team, IUPUI has one shutout and been blanked four times on the season.
Scouting the Panthers
EIU (2-6-1, 0-1-1 Summit) is coming off a 1-1 home draw with reigning league champion Denver last weekend, but is 0-5 in road matches this season. Jake Brillhart leads the EIU attack with three goals and three assists while Dominic Recca also has three scores. Tayron Martin has a pair of assists and is tied with Brillhart and Will Butler with a team-high 14 shot attempts. In goal, Mike Novotny has appeared in seven matches and has a 1.33 goals against average and 20 saves overall. The Panthers have just one shutout on the season, but have yielded just one goal in their past three outings.
Inside the Series
IUPUI is 4-3-4 all-time against EIU, dating back to the start of the series in 1999. The two schools played to a 1-1 tie in Charleston, Ill., last season and the Jaguars won the meeting prior, 2-1 in Indianapolis in 2012. The Jags are 3-1-1 in the five meetings in Indianapolis.
