INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball program has added a third Division I transfer as Mason Archie, II recently joined the program and began practicing with the team. The Indianapolis-native played two years at Davidson before opting to return to his hometown to play for the Jaguars.

The 6-foot-4 guard will have a year and a half of eligibility, beginning next season.

"We are excited to add Mason and glad he chose us," IUPUI Head Coach Todd Howard said. "He's been to multiple NCAA tournaments, he's a quality, versatile player from right here in Indy."

Archie appeared in 26 games over two seasons at Davidson, helping the Wildcats to back-to-back Southern Conference Tournament titles and NCAA Tournament berths. He totaled 21 points and hit 4-of-7 from three-point range in two years at Davidson, including a career-high five-point effort against Chattanooga on Feb. 4, 2012.

Archie prepped at the Tindley School, capping his career ranked second on the program's all-time scoring list. As a senior, he turned in 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game, earning All-City and All-Sectional honors. He was later named an Indiana Class A All-Star and ranked among the city's scoring leaders. Academically, he was a member of the National Honor Society.

He becomes IUPUI's third transfer sitting out the season, joining Detroit-transfer P.J. Boutte and North Carolina Central-transfer DavRon Williams. Boutte played in 66 games at Detroit over two seasons, while Williams played in 21 games and made five starts at NCCU last season. Williams began his career at Wabash Valley Junior College in 2010 before redshirting the 2011-12 campaign at NCCU.

"I love what the three Division I transfers can add in practice everyday," Howard said. "They have a super presence."

Howard also inked three players during the early signing period in guards D.J. McCall and Cortez Macklin and forward Aaron Brennan
