WOMEN'S TENNIS COMES UP EMPTY IN SOUTH BEND

Nationally-ranked Notre Dame takes care of business at home

1/19/2014 12:46:00 AM

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - In what could be IUPUI's toughest test of the season, IUPUI came up on the short end of the stick again falling to #21 Notre Dame 7-0 in South Bend on Saturday.

The Jaguars fell behind early losing both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches and yielding the doubles point to Notre Dame. With the point already clinched, the third doubles match was called potentially negating the lone bright spot for the Jaguars. Bobbi Modesto and Rachael Bridegroom were leading their match 3-2 when both of the other matches ended.

Neither Modesto nor Bridegroom had as much success in their singles matches. Modesto lost in the third spot 6-1, 6-1 and Bridegroom in the fourth 6-0, 6-3.

Vanessa Whyte had the toughest task of the day facing 67th ranked Quinn Gleason of Notre Dame in the first spot. Whyte wasn't able to get anything going and fell 6-1, 6-1.

IUPUI didn't find much success against nationally-ranked Notre Dame, but the match should serve as a learning experience. The Jaguars will have their first opportunity to bounce back when they travel to Wright State to play the Raiders at noon Sunday.
