INDIANAPOLIS – Two weeks ago, the IUPUI women’s tennis team claimed a victory over Valparaiso and the Jaguars look to build upon that win this weekend when they welcome Eastern Illinois to the West Indy Racquet Club on Friday, March 8, before traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio, to take on Xavier on Saturday, March 9.
The Jags come into the weekend with a 2-9 overall record, while the Panthers and Musketeers sit at 4-2 and 7-4, respectively.
“We are coming off a win before this layoff, which gave us some confidence. We have taken the time to work on areas that need improvement and have structured practice to address those areas,” interim head coach
Pat Nickell said. “The ladies have worked hard and this weekend presents us with two very solid teams to gauge our improvement. Our game plan and recipe for success is to get the doubles point and production up and down the lineup as we move toward Summit League play.”
Bobbi Modesto has been the top producer for the Jags in singles action this season posting an 8-3 record through 11 matches this season, while
Rachael Bridegroom and
Vanessa Whyte have emerged as the Jaguars top doubles tandem by posting a 4-1 record.
Last season, both Eastern Illinois and Xavier defeated IUPUI by identical 6-1 scores.
Friday’s match against the Panthers is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET, while Saturday’s match in Cincinnati will start at 7 p.m.
