ROCHESTER, Mich. - The IUPUI women’s tennis team kicked off Summit League action on Thursday, March 28, playing its first two matches of its Summit League cluster, but the Jaguars dropped a pair of 4-0 decisions to Fort Wayne and Kansas City to fall to 0-2 in conference action.
 
The pair of losses against the top 2 teams in The Summit League Preseason Poll dropped the Jaguars to 4-14 overall on the season.
 
The Jags started the day against the Mastodons and lost the doubles point as Fort Wayne claimed all three doubles matches by identical 8-2 scores.
 
In singles play, IPFW earned straight-set wins at the No. 1, 2 and 5 spots to secure the victory.
 
Bobbi Modesto’s and Jesika Bays’ matches went unfinished, while Jaclyn Hyman’s match did not start.
 
Following the loss to the Mastodons, IUPUI returned to the court to meet Kansas City in the afternoon. In doubles play, the Jags split the first two matches with UMKC winning at the No. 1 spot, while Shelby Hullett and Rachael Bridegroom claimed an 8-5 win at the No. 2 position. However, an 8-1 victory for the Kangaroos in the final doubles match pushed them to an early one-point advantage.
 
Similar to the earlier match, Kansas City earned three straight-set wins in singles play to secure the win with three matches left unfinished. When the Kangaroos secured the win, Modesto was leading at the No. 3 position, while Vanessa Whyte was leading in the second set, 4-1, after dropping the first set at the No. 2 spot.
 
The Jaguars return to action on Friday, March 29, when they take on Western Illinois at 2 p.m.
