INDIANAPOLIS – Prior to the start of the first Summit League cluster of the season next week, the IUPUI women’s tennis team will take on a pair of local opponents on Friday, March 22, at the West Indy Racquet Club as the Jags host Marian University and Butler.
The Jags will first take on the Knights at 9:30 a.m., before squaring off with the Bulldogs at 1 p.m.
“We’re coming off a great win against Wright State last weekend, which gives us a lot of confidence coming into two important matches this weekend,” interim head coach
Pat Nickell said. “We look forward to taking that momentum and confidence into these matches and look for continued improvement in preparation for the first Summit League cluster next weekend.”
In their last match, the Jags rallied for a 4-3 win over the Raiders thanks to four singles wins. The Jags received a pair of three-set wins at the top of the lineup from
Shelby Hullett and
Bobbi Modesto, in addition to straight-set wins from
Vanessa Whyte and
Rachael Bridegroom.
The win upped IUPUI’s record to 3-11 on the season.
Marian comes into the match with a 14-4 record on the season, including a 7-1 record in the Crossroads Conference. The Knights are ranked 19th in the NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll, and they just recently wrapped up a five-match spring break trip with a 3-2 record, which included a 7-0 loss to Creighton.
Butler owns a 3-14 record entering Friday’s match-up with the Jags. The Bulldogs have dropped six consecutive matches, including a 6-1 decision last Sunday in Detroit.
