WOMEN'S TENNIS WELCOMES WRIGHT STATE ON SUNDAY

Jags host Raiders at 11 a.m. at West Indy Racquet Club

INDIANAPOLIS – Coming off a pair of losses last weekend, the IUPUI women’s tennis team looks to get back on track on Sunday, March 17, when it welcomes Wright State to the West Indy Racquet Club for the first match of a men’s and women’s doubleheader.

The Jags face a pair of tough teams last weekend in Eastern Illinois and Xavier and both defeated the Jaguars, 7-0.

“Looking at the Xavier scores, they were fairly lopsided but they are a good, deep team - probably the best team we've played - but we actually came away feeling good about how we played. We won a doubles point at the second spot, Vanessa and Rachael are now 5-3 since pairing up in doubles, and our one through five singles all had better second sets - something Coach Tunis and I have stressed to them,” interim head coach Pat Nickell said. “Shelby [Hullett] played a really good second set and everyone raised their level of play. If we can match that level, we will be very competitive in the remaining matches as we head into conference.”

Wright State comes into Sunday’s match with a 5-6 overall record after earning wins over Morehead State and Ohio Dominican last weekend.

The Raiders, however, are 0-2 on the season when playing on the road.
