NORMAL, Ill. – The IUPUI women's tennis team took on Illinois State on Friday looking to conclude their three-match road trip through the state of Illinois with a winning record, but the Redbirds took four singles matches and the doubles point leading them past the Jaguars, 5-2.

Illinois State took the No. 3 and No. 1 doubles matches by identical 8-1 margins to secure the doubles point, but Rachael Bridegroom and Vanessa Whyte refused to make it a clean sweep for the Redbirds as the duo eked out an 8-6 win at the No. 2 doubles spot.

Unfortunately for the Jags, Illinois State captured the first three singles matches at the fifth, second and fourth spots to clinch the victory.

Despite having the outcome already determined, IUPUI was victorious in two of the remaining three singles matches.

Bobbi Modesto continued her impressive play as of late with another singles win at the No. 3 spot. The freshman won, 6-4, 6-3, to grab a point for the Jags, but that was offset by a Redbirds win at the top spot.

In the final singles match, Jaclyn Hyman defeated Ashton Nisbet, 6-1, 7-6, to end the match on a positive note for the Jags.

With Modesto's singles win, she has now won four straight singles matches upping her dual record to 5-2 on the season.

The Jags have six days off from competition before returning home on Friday, Feb. 15, to take on Northern Illinois. The Huskies and Jaguars will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club.
