NORMAL, Ill. – The IUPUI women’s tennis team closes its three-match road trip through the state of Illinois on Friday, Feb. 8, when it heads to Normal, Ill., to take on Illinois State. The match is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET at the Evergreen Racquet Club.
IUPUI is coming off a weekend split on the road last weekend in which it defeated UW-Green Bay, 5-2, before dropping a tough 4-3 decision to Chicago State. In the loss to the Cougars, one of IUPUI’s top players in
Abbey Neff went down with an injury and she will be out this weekend.
“In addition to a tough opponent, we will again be challenged by a lack of depth with the injury to Abbey [Neff]. Getting Vanessa [Whyte] back into the lineup will certainly give us a lift, but it would be nice to be at full strength for the match,” said interim head coach
Pat Nickell. “We had a good day of practice and I'm confident the ladies will embrace the challenge and look to step up their effort. We really came together as a team this past weekend and continue to make great strides in all areas. We look forward to competing on the road for the second straight weekend.”
Illinois State comes into the weekend with a 2-1 record following a pair of wins last weekend over Butler and Eastern Illinois.
The Redbirds and Jaguars met last season in Indianapolis, with Illinois State claiming a 6-1 victory.
