KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Following its home match on Friday, the IUPUI women’s tennis team made the trip up to Kalamazoo, Mich., Saturday to take on Western Michigan, but the trip did not get off to the way the Jags wanted as they fell to the Broncos, 7-0, at the West Hills Athletic Club.

The loss dropped the Jags to 1-8 on the season.

The Broncos took the early lead with wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 doubles positions prior to the start of singles play.

Despite WMU winning all six singles matches, interim head coach Pat Nickell felt that the scores didn’t reflect how well his players played.

“I thought we really played well out there today, but we just weren’t able to capitalize on our opportunities,” Nickell said. “Western Michigan won all the key points and that was the difference out there.”

Five of the six matches were determined in straight sets, but the No. 3 match between Shelby Hullett and Maggie Remynse was the only match to go three sets.

Hullett cruised to a 6-1 opening-set win, before Remynse came back with a 6-4 win in set two to send the match to a third-set tiebreaker. In the race to 10 points to determine the winner, Remynse was able to eke out a 10-8 win to earn the win.

The Jags are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 17, when they take on Bradley at 9 a.m. in Kalamazoo, Mich.
