INDIANAPOLIS - Before heading to Kalamazoo, Mich., on Saturday, Feb 16, the IUPUI women's tennis welcomed Northern Illinois to the West Indy Racquet Club Friday evening, but the Huskies prevailed with a 6-1 win over the Jaguars.
The loss dropped the Jags to 1-7 on the season, while the Huskies improved to 6-1.
"You have to give credit to Northern Illinois. They are a well-coached, deep team and we were not able to match that depth," said interim head coach Pat Nickell. "The ladies are working very hard. We actually had perhaps the best week of practice to date and we are just struggling to apply that good work to match play. Western Michigan is another deep MAC team and will provide a big challenge tomorrow as well. We are just going to continue to work to improve."
Northern Illinois took the early lead capturing the doubles point, and continued its strong play in singles winning five of the six matches.
The lone win for the Jaguars came from
Bobbi Modesto, who claimed her fifth straight singles win to improve to 6-2 on the season.
The Jags have a quick turnaround as they travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., on Saturday, Feb. 16, to take on Western Michigan, before meeting Bradley in Kalamazoo on Sunday. Saturday's match against the Broncos is set to begin at 2 p.m., while Sunday's match will start at 9 a.m.
