INDIANAPOLIS - Freshman Patrick Henry scored his first career goal in the game's 43rd minute and the Jaguars overcame an early own goal to earn a 1-1 double overtime draw with Oral Roberts at Carroll Stadium on Saturday (Nov. 9) night.

Sophomore Eduardo Cortes made three stops in goal in 110 minutes work.

Oral Roberts (6-7-4, 3-2-1 Summit) went in front in the 15th minute, thanks to an IUPUI own goal. Casey Cantor whipped a cross into the IUPUI six-yard box, targeting a sprinting Matt Rogers. However, the ball hit off a retreating Ben Ogedegbe and snuck past Cortes and inside the near post for the game's first goal.

However, the Jaguars ultimately responded just before halftime when a pair of freshmen teamed up for a score. Freshman Ayodele Makinde was making a far post run and received a brilliant ball in stride, setting up a scoring chance. The Chicago-native had an initial strike knocked down, but left the ball on the doorstep for Henry, who had been on the field for less than three minutes.

Henry was in the right place at the right time and drilled a shot into the open net with ORU goalie Isaac Sandoval well out of the play.

IUPUI (2-11-5, 2-2-2 Summit) had numerous scoring chances in the second half, including a Clint Hoffar cross that nearly gave the Jaguars the lead. Hoffar drilled a ball into the box from more than 30 yards out, forcing Sandoval to back up and make a play. The ORU goalie snared the ball with two hands and had to tiptoe along the endline to keep the ball out of the net.

In the 54th minute, Cristian Soto put a strike on target, making Sandoval drop to a knee to make a save. Late in the match, Tyler Drumm had a header go just over the crossbar and in the final two minutes, the Jaguars were unable to get on the end of a Hoffar long throw-in that bounced inside the six-yard box.

ORU's best second half scoring opportunity was a Griffith Poindexter header off Craig Rogers' corner kick, that bounced just left of the post. Poindexter skied above the Jaguars' back line and headed the ball down, but just off target. Poindexter just missed scoring in the first half too, as Cortes made a tremendous sprawling save in the 16th minute to glove a drive that looked earmarked for a score.

IUPUI outshot ORU 21-19 and 6-4 on frame. However, ORU owned a 10-5 corner kick advantage, getting seven corners after halftime.

The Jaguars will now take on top-seeded Denver in the four-team Summit League Tournament next weekend in Macomb, Ill.. Denver won the regular season meeting between the two schools and was a perfect 6-0 in Summit League play in its first year in the league.
