INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI won its second match of the season on Saturday (Oct. 19), defeating IPFW in dramatic fashion at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Junior Tyler Drumm scored his first career goal in the 88th minute off assists from Clint Hoffar and Ian Block to give IUPUI a 2-1 victory over the visiting Mastodons.

Drumm and Cristian Soto both scored their first career goals and IUPUI won its third consecutive Senior Night matchup under Head Coach Isang Jacob as they honored seniors Ian Block and Gregory Efiom prior to play.

This one got off to a familiar slow start as neither team scored in the first half. Both teams had seven shot attempts, but neither had a corner kick. The intensity picked up in the second half though.

Soto chased down an IPFW (1-11-1, 1-3 Summit) defender in the 49th minute and deflected his attempt to clear the ball. The ball bounced away from the defender and gave Soto an open look at the goal, which he took advantage of kicking it straight through the IPFW goalkeeper Raphael Kotzock's legs for his first career goal and a 1-0 lead for the Jaguars. Soto's aggression tonight was on full display. He received a yellow card in the first half and nearly received a second later in the match.

Both teams enjoyed the higher tempo second half. IPFW had a series of scoring opportunities with four corner kicks in just over a minute, but failed to convert. They came back however and tied the game eight minutes after Soto's goal. With the ball bouncing in front of the right goal post, IPFW's Oscar Uyamadu, who also received a yellow card later in the match, put a shot past Eduardo Cortes to tie the score at 1-1.

Cortes wasn't able to record his third shutout of the season, but his season-high nine saves kept the Jaguars in control.

"(Cortes) kept us in the game," Jacob said. "Without Eduardo today it would have been a different ball game… Unfortunately, he couldn't get a clean sheet today but the kid played well. I just hope he continues to get the accolades he deserves."

The score was still tied going into the final 20 minutes of play, but IUPUI just missed taking the lead late. In the 72nd minute, Kirklin Ring served a long ball to Jonny Williams, who passed to Olayode Ahmed. Ahmed put a right-footed shot on goal, but Kotzock was able to leap to his right to push it just over the crossbar.

Both Michael Sass and Gregory Efiom had shot attempts off a Hoffar throw in in the 82nd minute, and Lance Davis struck a shot from 35 yards out three minutes later, but Kotzock managed saves on each attempt.

"It was tough. We knew we had to fight back from it when we got equalized," Drumm said. "We knew were going to have to come back and we finally did."

The breakthrough came with just under three minutes left. Hoffar threw the ball in to Block who controlled the ball and as he was fighting with a defender, the ball came loose to Drumm who found a gap and put the game-winning goal past the keeper.

With the win and three points in the standings, the Jaguars keep themselves in contention for the Summit League Tournament, .

The Jaguars will step out of conference one last time on Monday (Oct. 21) when the Jaguars travel to Highland Heights, Ky., to take on Northern Kentucky. That match is slated to kickoff at 7:00 p.m.. IUPUI is 1-1 in the Division I era against NKU, including winning last year's meeting 1-0 at Carroll Stadium on Sept. 9.
