DENVER - Fresh off its first win of the season, the IUPUI men's soccer team will travel to Denver this Saturday (Oct. 12) to take on the Pioneers (5-3-3, 1,-0) at 9 p.m. Eastern at CIBER Field.

The opportunistic Jaguars have struggled to score all season long, but sophomore Lance Davis put through the deciding overtime goal in a 1-0 victory against Omaha last weekend. It was Davis's second goal this season increasing his point total to five.

Davis is one of three Jaguars with two goals this season, joined by senior Ian Block and sophomore Michael Sass. Block assisted Davis on last weekend's game-winner for his first helper of the year.

Giving up just over two goals per match for the season prior to last Saturday, Eduardo Cortes recorded six saves and posted his second shutout of the year in goal. It was his first appearance in goal for IUPUI since September 22. Cortes improved his goals against average to 1.75 and later earned Summit League Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth time in his collegiate career.

While the Jaguars gained a measure of momentum last weekend, the team must regroup for a tough challenge in Summit League newcomer Denver. The Pioneers have only given up 14 goals this season as junior goalkeeper Oliver Brown has 34 saves and a 1.23 goals against average. He is aided by a defense that yields just 11 shots per game, on average.

Offensively, Denver is averaging almost two goals per game, led by Cole Chapleski and Zach Bolden's seven points each. All total, 13 different DU players have at least one goal and 11 different players have at least one assist. Denver opened Summit League play with a 5-0 win at IPFW last Saturday and drew their last match 1-1 in double overtime against Oakland.

IUPUI is 1-0 all-time against the Pioneers, having won 1-0 on Sept. 24, 1999 in the Mile-High City. Hall of Famer Armando Femia stymied DU in that match for one of his seven shutouts that season.
