INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will hit the road for the first time in over a month when the Jaguars face off at Indiana State (Oct. 11) and at Summit League newcomer Denver (Oct. 13) this weekend. Friday's match against the Sycamores will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. Eastern at Memorial Stadium while Sunday's match at No. 17 Denver will kick at 2:00 p.m. Eastern at CIBER Field.
IUPUI (4-5-3, 0-2 Summit) is coming off back-to-back Summit League losses last weekend, falling to North Dakota State (2-0) and South Dakota State (1-0) at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. The Jaguars' offense has gone silent of late, netting just three goals in the past six games, led by
Tori Minnich and
Taylor Heidorn's two goals each. Sophomore forward
Kalli Shepler-Tucker and senior back
Sarah Carlisle have been the primary distributors, each collecting three assists.
The defense has remained stout since day one, yielding just 11 goals in 12 games this season. Senior goalkeeper
Giselle Guzman has guided the group with a 0.95 goals against average and .852 save percentage in 12 starts. The back four of Carlisle and sophomore
Lauren Kulaga on the outsides have teamed well with center backs
Maddie Riedford and
Kristin Pierce to form one of the league's most formidable units. However, IUPUI had some hiccups with Pierce sidelined last weekend and had to shuffle the group for the Summit League opener.
Indiana State (4-8) has been strong at home this year, posting a 3-2 mark including wins over Georgia Southern, Green Bay and UT-Martin. Offensively, ISU has gotten seven goals from Kate Johnson and five scores from Abby Reed. Sydney Lovelace leads the Sycamores with five assists in 12 games. In goal, Brittany San Roman has played the majority of the team's minutes, compiling a 2-5 record, 2.15 GAA and .707 save percentage.
IUPUI is 4-8-1 all-time against ISU, having lost three straight in the series. The Jaguars last win over Indiana State was a 3-0 road win on Sept. 6, 2009. IUPUI lost last year's meeting, 2-1 at Carroll Stadium, despite a goal from
Ashley Doreski.
Denver (10-1-1, 1-0 Summit) has been worthy of its top 25 ranking all season long, led by MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List selection Kristen Hamilton. A Third Team All-American pick last season, Hamilton recently became Denver's all-time leading scorer and has eight goals and six assists this season. Her running mate, Nicholette Digiacomo has six goals and three assists in 12 matches. In goal, Cassidy Rey has a 0.62 GAA and made 51 saves in nine starts. Denver's lone loss was a 2-1 outcome at Nebraska on Sept. 22, snapping the Pioneers' eight-game undefeated stretch to start the season.
IUPUI is 0-1 all-time against Denver, having lost a 3-0 road decision on Sept. 12, 1999.
