INDIANAPOLIS – Following a 6-1 loss to UW-Milwaukee last night, the IUPUI women's tennis team was back in action this afternoon at the West Indy Racquet Club against Dayton, but the visiting Flyers were able to rally for a 4-3 win over the Jags.
 
The loss dropped IUPUI's record to 0-4 on the season.
 
Shelby Hullett and Bobbi Modesto put together an impressive performance at the top doubles spot for IUPUI cruising to an 8-3 win in the opening doubles match. With the Jags needing to win just one of the next two matches to clinch the doubles point, it came down to the No. 3 position after Dayton's Katie Boeckman and Sammi Hornbarger defeated Abbey Neff and Vanessa Whyte at the No. 2 spot.
 
In the decisive third doubles match, Jesika Bays and Rachael Bridegroom were able to earn a close 8-6 win to send IUPUI into singles play with the lead.
 
In singles action, all six matches were straight-set decisions, but the Flyers managed to win four of the six to earn the come-from-behind win.
 
The Flyers were strong at the top and bottom of the lineup, while the Jags took the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches.
 
At the No. 3 position, Neff bounced back from her doubles defeat with a strong 6-1, 6-2 win over Maureen Stevens, while Modesto backed up Neff's win with a 6-2, 6-3 win of her own over Claire McNulty.
 
The Jaguars are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 3, when they head to Chicago, Ill., to take on both UW-Green Bay and Chicago State.
