INDIANAPOLIS - Riding positive momentum from their most resounding win of the year, the IUPUI women's soccer team will open Summit League play at home at Carroll Stadium this weekend. The Jaguars will host South Dakota on Friday (Sept. 28) at 7:00 p.m. before turning around to welcome Kansas City on Sunday (Sept. 30) at 1:00 p.m..
Head coach Chris Johnson's squad will have had eight days between games as the Jaguars won at DePauw on Thursday, Sept. 20. Four different Jaguars dented the net, including Ashley Doreski's team-high third goal of the year in the fourth minute and freshman Grace Perkowitz turned in a goal and an assist. Sophomore Anna Rode and junior Mackenzie Calvert also scored in the win.
Doreski leads the Jaguars in goals (3), points (6) and shots on goal (11). Freshman Kalli Shepler-Tucker earned her team-high third assist of the year last week and is the lone Jag to have multiple assists on the year. Junior Giselle Guzman got the win in goal and lowered her goals against average to 2.48 in the process. The North Hollywood, Calif.-native has made 59 saves in 10 appearances in goal.
USD (1-7-2, 0-0 Summit) comes in winless in their past five outings, all away from home. The Coyotes lone win of the year was a 3-2 victory over the College of Saint Mary at home on Sept. 2. Jenny Teslow leads the Yotes with four goals and nine points, while Danielle Anderson has three scores and a team-high two assists. Both Teagan Eberle and Erin Bello have two goals each this season. In net, three different Coyotes have seen action, led by Mackenzie Viktor's 1.86 goals against average and 14 saves in two starts. Abby Lindsay has played the majority of the minutes, amassing a 3.22 GAA and .581 save percentage in her seven appearances.
IUPUI is 2-0-1 all-time against USD including last year's 2-2 double overtime tie on the road. Then-senior Chelsi McHenry scored a pair of late goals to force overtime, helping the Jaguars escape with a point in the standings.
UMKC (3-5-3, 0-0) has wins over Southeast Missouri, Green Bay and Alabama A&M this season. Taylor Bare leads the Kangaroos' attack with five goals in 11 games, including a pair of game-winners. Both Hunter Wagoner and Hannah Chadick have three assists each to tie for the team lead. Nina Tzianos has played the majority of the minutes in goal, posting a 1.39 GAA in eight games. She's made 34 saves in just over 700 minutes work while notching a .756 save percentage.
IUPUI is 2-1 all-time against the 'Roos, but dropped a 2-1 overtime decision in Kansas City a year ago. The Jags are 1-0 in the previous meeting in Indianapolis.
