On the field, IUPUI (2-6-1) is coming off a tie and a loss at this past weekend's Chicago South Loop Hotels UIC Soccer Classic. The Jaguars played UIC to a 2-2 draw on Friday night before dropping a 2-0 decision to Big Ten foe Wisconsin on Sunday. Senior
Kyle Hyland continues to pile up the goals, tallying his fifth over the weekend to continue to rank among the nation's top 20 in that category. Freshman
Michael Sass and senior
Sean McGrath each contributed their team-high third assists on junior
Gregory Efiom's first career goal on Friday as well. In goal,
Eduardo Cortes had a busy weekend and currently leads the country with 51 total saves.
The Jaguars are 2-1 this season at Carroll Stadium, having outscored opponents 4-3 in those contests.
Valparaiso (1-4-1) is on a four-game slide since opening the year 1-0-1 with a tie at Michigan State and a win over Saint Joseph's. Since then, the Crusaders have tallied just one goal in their past four games while dropping four straight one-goal decisions. Todd Vervynckt and Andy Lynn lead VU with two goals each and both Eric Nieto and Yannick Iwunze have two assists apiece. In goal, Kyle Zobeck has been tough with a 1.01 goals against average and 13 saves in six games.
IUPUI is just 6-11-1 all-time against Valparaiso and 2-9-1 since joining the Division I ranks in 1998. The Jaguars have lost three straight, including two overtime decisions, since last beating Valpo 3-1 in Indianapolis on Sept. 5, 2008.
