CHICAGO - The IUPUI men's soccer team capped play at the Chicago South Loop Hotels UIC Soccer Classic on Sunday (Sept. 16), dropping a 2-0 decision to Big Ten foe Wisconsin at Flames Field.

Wisconsin (2-2-3) went in front less than six minutes in on Anders Kristensen's first goal of the year and doubled the lead in the 44th minute on Nick Janus' first score.

The game's first goal came on the first shot attempt from either side, as Chris Prince setup Kristensen's eventual game-winner. Prince crossed the ball into Kristensen, who blasted a shot top shelf past IUPUI rookie netminder Eduardo Cortes.

IUPUI (2-6-1) got clean looks from both Kyle Hyland and Joshio Sandoval in the first half, but Wisconsin goalkeeper Chase Rau was equal to the task on every opportunity. The Badgers got the key second goal with just 1:55 left before halftime when Janus snuck a shot inside the near post and past Cortes.

The Jaguars opened the second half on the aggressive, getting early attempts from Gregory Efiom and Ian Block, but was unable to get anything on frame. In the 57th minute, the Jaguars got a one-man advantage when UW's Joey Tennyson was sent off with a red card. On the ensuing free kick, freshman Devon Orben fired high, but the Jags kept the offensive pressure high.

Despite playing with the man advantage, the Jaguars remained unable to find the back of the net as Rau handed IUPUI just their third shutout of the season.

Wisconsin outshot the Jaguars 12-8 as Block and Hyland led IUPUI with two attempts each. Cortes made one save in 90 minutes work as the Badgers managed just three shots on goal.

Rau made four stops in the shutout. Wisconsin claimed the tournament title with Sunday's win coupled with a tie against Western Illinois on Friday, along with a +2 goal differential. Both Hyland and freshman Michael Sass were selected to the All-Tournament Team.
