BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The IUPUI women's soccer team fell in a two goal hole early in the second half at Bowling Green on Sunday (Aug. 26) and came up just short in a comeback bid in a 2-1 loss. Junior Ashley Doreski scored her third career goal in the loss, thanks to an assist from senior Kelli Parks.

After junior Giselle Guzman and the Jaguars defense turned in a clean sheet in the first half, BGSU (1-2) scored in the 50th minute to open the scoring. Tracy Togba scored her first goal of the season, off an assist from Kaylee Draper to make it 1-0.

Less than seven minutes later, Madeline Wideman made it 2-0 Falcons with her first score of the season. The first 15 minutes of the second halves have continued to be problematic for the Jaguars this season as opponents have scored seven times between the 45th and 60th minutes in 2012.

"Some of that is a fitness issue because we're not playing that many players," head coach Chris Johnson said. "It will improve as the season goes on, but with it just being the second weekend at this point, we can attribute part of that to a fitness issue.

Right now we're trying to convince some of the kids that we can win games. We've gotten to halftime without giving up a goal, but we're not coming out with the confidence to win games. Instead, we're kind of waiting on something bad to happen or just being tentative and not coming out aggressive enough to win the game."

On Sunday, IUPUI came off the mat in the 66th minute as Doreski found the back of the net for the first time in 2012. Parks drove a cross across the BGSU penalty area, spotting Doreski on the far post where she headed a shot against the grain for a score.

"Doreski did some good stuff for us today," Johnson said. "We need our forwards to hold onto the ball a little better, but we've got some girls on the roster that can play. Today, we were winning some balls and getting forward, but our forwards struggled to keep possession for us and the ball was coming back at us."

IUPUI (0-4) continued to put the pressure on to draw even late in the match, but sophomore Taylor Heidorn had a chance fly just wide right of goal and Parks had an attempt stopped by BGSU goalkeeper Becca Ison in the closing minute. BGSU outshot the Jaguars 20-8 overall and 12-6 on goal in claiming their first win of the season.

Heidorn led the Jags with three shot attempts and Guzman made a season-high 10 saves in goal, falling one shy of tying her career-high. Ison made five saves in the win.

Johnson tweaked his lineup on Sunday, dropping Parks back to the defensive third while junior Sarah Carlisle moved to a defensive midfield spot.

"We pulled a lot of our better players into the defensive third and I think that helped limit their opportunities," Johnson said. "We had better organization in the back. Hopefully, we'll continue to solidify the back line."

IUPUI will take on another Mid-American Conference foe on Friday (Aug. 31) when the Jaguars head up I-69 to play Ball State in Muncie at 4:00 p.m.
