FARGO, N.D. - The IUPUI women's soccer team finished up at The Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday (May 12) at the Ellig Sports Complex on the campus of North Dakota State University. Head coach
Antonio McDaniel's first-year program didn't factor into the team scoring due to too few runners competing as host NDSU coasted to the team title with 193 points. First-year Summit League foe South Dakota was second at 164 and Southern Utah was third with 114.
Junior
Kaci Verkamp highlighted Saturday's efforts, just missing a personal record time in the 1,500m race by just less than two seconds. She clocked a time of 4:56.62 and placed 22nd overall while sophomore
Rebekah Jones was 23rd with a time of 4:58.12.
In the 5,000m race, junior
Rebecca Downs led IUPUI's five entries by crossing the finish line at 18:31.79. Classmate
Rachel Zajac returned from injury to register a time of 18:42.30 and finished 26th of 41 entries.
Jones came in at 19:21.20 and sophomore
Chrissy Leslie posted a time of 19:46.63. Senior
Ana Paez went 20:09.50 in her final career race.
As year one on the track concluded, Paez will be McDaniel's only defection due to graduation. The roster will be bolstered by the addition of six incoming freshmen and the return of a number of student-athletes who missed the spring schedule due to injury.
