TRACK TEAMS HEAD TO OXFORD TO COMPETE IN MIAMI INVITATIONAL

More than 600 student-athletes scheduled to compete over two days

OXFORD, Ohio - The IUPUI men's and women's track teams will continue their outdoor schedules on Apr. 6-7 when the Jaguars participate at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational on the George L. Rider Track. Track events are expected to start at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:55 a.m. on Saturday.

On the women's side, junior Rebecca Downs highlights the Jaguars' entries as the team's lone participant in the 10,000m run after having run 5K's the past two weekends. She and teammate Rebekah Jones will both take the track on Friday night as Jones will participate in the fast heat of the 5,000m race. 

Junior Kaci Verkamp leads a deep group of entries in Saturday's 1,500m race, after having run 18:38.12 in the 5,000m run last weekend at Purdue's Mike Poehlein Invitational. Jones will double up and also run the 1,500, along with senior Ana Paez, sophomore Chrissy Leslie and freshman Amy Mattingly. Mattingly, Paez and redshirt freshman Emily Vetor will all run the 3,000m steeplechase this weekend. Paez ran 12:05.35 in her first-ever steeplechase at Purdue, while Mattingly ran 12:24.83.

On the men's side, the trio of Matt Farkas, Pryce Ragains and Austin Young will all run their 10,000m season debuts on Friday night. Junior #J.D. Smith and freshman Zane Cooperider# will begin the men's night in the fast section of the 5,000m run, expected to start at 5:30 p.m..

On Saturday, four other Jaguars will open the day in the second section of the 5,000m race, including freshmen Spencer Burgin and Nathan Westfall. Burgin won the 10,000m race at Purdue last weekend.
