INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women’s tennis team won the doubles point and claimed the first three singles matches to secure a 5-2 win over Oakland in its opener of its final Summit League cluster of the season Thursday evening at North Central High School.
 
The win marked the Jags third straight victory and their first Summit League victory of the season as they improved to 6-17 overall and 1-4 in conference action.
 
IUPUI got off to a great start in doubles as its No. 3 duo of Rachael Bridegroom and Shelby Hullett finished first with a dominating 8-0 win, before Vanessa Whyte and Abbey Neff followed with an 8-1 win of their own at the No. 2 spot to clinch the doubles point.
 
In singles play, Neff’s solid play continued as she was the first to finish downing her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the five spot to up IUPUI’s lead to 2-0.
 
Jesika Bays followed Neff’s lead winning by the same margin at the sixth spot to put the Jaguars a point away from victory, and Hullett clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 4 spot.
 
Out of the remaining three matches, the Jaguars final point came from the top spot with Danielle Haefele scratching out a 7-5 first-set win, before cruising to a 6-1 win in set two.
 
IUPUI has two matches on Friday, April 15, as it opens with Oral Roberts at 9 a.m., before taking on the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State at 2 p.m. All of Friday’s matches will take place at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis.
