INDIANAPOLIS – Playing its final tune-up prior to its first Summit League cluster next week, the IUPUI women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Butler Friday afternoon at the Butler Bubble.

The loss dropped the Jaguars record to 3-11 overall on the season.

Butler jumped out to a 1-0 lead winning the doubles point thanks to victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. However, the duo of Rachael Bridegroom and Shelby Hullett managed to pick up an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles to close out doubles action.

IUPUI’s lone point came at the No. 4 singles position with Vanessa Whyte overcoming a first-set loss to earn a 6-4 second-set win, before dominating in a 6-0 third-set victory.

Unfortunately for the Jags, they dropped decisive third-sets at the one and five slots to give Butler two key points, while also falling in straight sets at the two, three, and six positions.

The Jags head out to Las Vegas, Nev., for its first Summit League cluster March 15-17. In Las Vegas, the Jags will meet Southern Utah, UMKC, South Dakota and IPFW.
