CARMEL, Ind. – The IUPUI women's tennis team got off to a great start in its home match against Bradley, but the Braves rallied for five wins in singles play to defeat the Jaguars, 5-2, Friday evening at the Five Seasons Sports Club in Carmel, Ind.
Â
The loss dipped IUPUI's overall record to 3-17.
Â
The Jags got out to the early one-point lead following a sweep of all three doubles matches.
Alisha Cummings and
Danielle Haefele teamed up for an 8-6 win at the No. 1 doubles spot to get things started, before
Vanessa Whyte and
Abbey Neff earned the identical outcome at the No. 2 position.
Â
To close out doubles play,
Rachael Bridegroom and
Shelby Hullett cruised to an 8-0 victory.
Â
Unfortunately for the Jags, the strong doubles play didn't carry over into singles action as Bradley captured four of the five singles matches in straight sets.
Â
IUPUI's lone singles point came from Neff, who dominated in a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 4 singles position.
Â
The Jags are back in action at Five Seasons Sports Club in Carmel on Friday, March 30, when it hosts Indiana Wesleyan and Marian. Those matches at set to begin at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
