CHARLESTON, Ill. – The IUPUI women’s tennis team looked to snap its eight-match losing streak in its final road regular-season road trip of the season Tuesday, but Eastern Illinois defeated the Jaguars, 6-1, at the Rex Darling Courts.
 
The loss dropped IUPUI’s record to 3-16.
 
In doubles action, IUPUI’s top duo of Alisha Cummings and Danielle Haefele were the first to finish falling by an 8-1 decision, but they were picked up when Shelby Hullett and Rachael Bridegroom emerged with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 doubles spot turning the attention to the No. 2 doubles match.
 
With the No. 2 doubles match determining the doubles point, Eastern Illinois’ tandem picked up a key break helping them to an 8-6 win as the Panthers jumped in front, 1-0.
 
Unfortunately for IUPUI, Eastern Illinois took the first four singles matches to clinch the victory. However, the Jags salvaged a point thanks to Vanessa Whyte’s 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position.
 
A Panthers win at the No. 6 spot closed out the 6-1 victory.
 
IUPUI returns home on Friday, March 23, when it hosts Bradley at Five Seasons Sports Club in Carmel, Ind. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
