YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The IUPUI women's tennis team used three singles wins and the all important doubles point to defeat Youngstown State, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Boardman Tennis Center earning its first win of the 2012 season.
After falling in No. 1 doubles,
Vanessa Whyte and
Abbey Neff teamed up for an impressive 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. The Jags picked up the doubles point when
Alisha Cummings and
Rachael Bridegroom won by default at No. 3 doubles giving IUPUI the early 1-0 lead.
Youngstown State started strong in singles capturing wins at the top three spots, before Whyte got the Jags back on track.
Whyte put together a solid performance from start to finish defeating Youngstown State's Gimena Puppo 6-1, 6-2.
The Jags emerged victorious with wins by default at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots clinching the 4-3 victory.
IUPUI is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 4, when it heads to Akron, Ohio, to take on the Akron Zips.
