MILWAUKEE – The IUPUI women’s tennis team opened their weekend with a 7-0 loss to Wisconsin-Milwaukee Friday at Le Club Sports Club in Milwaukee.

The loss dropped the Jags to 1-7 on the season, while UW-Milwaukee improved to 4-2.

IUPUI fell behind early when the Panthers swept all three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead.

In singles, the Jags had opportunities to win at the No. 3, 4, and 5 spots, but fell short in all three matches.

After dropping No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6 singles in straight sets, Shelby Hullett and Abbey Neff each took the first set at the No. 3 and No. 5 spot, respectively. In both matches, the Panthers evened things up sending those matches to a third-set, but Hullett fell just short in her third set losing by a 7-5 margin, while Neff fell 6-0 in her deciding set.

Vanessa Whyte responded from a 6-4 opening-set loss at No. 4 singles with a 6-2 win in her second set, but a break proved to be the difference in the tie-breaker as she fell, 10-8.

IUPUI is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11, when it takes on Wisconsin-Green Bay in Green Bay at 3 p.m. ET.
