INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men’s swimming and diving team capped off a perfect 2-0 weekend Saturday afternoon as it defeated Evansville, 130.16-109.83.
“This was a really fun meet. There were a lot of close races, which is what we want this time of year,” head coach
Matt Bos said. “Coming off a meet late last night, I could not be happier with the energy we brought make to the pool this afternoon.
Adam Ferguson stepped up and sealed the win for us in the 200 breast with a 2:08, which is a very nice swim for early November.
Tony Carroll had two great individual swims in the 50 and 100 free, but his backstroke lead-off in the medley relay was what really set the tone for us.”
Carroll’s time of 52.64 to lead off the 400 medley relay was the third-fastest time in program history, leading the Jags to a winning time of 3:33.68 to get the meet off to a great start.
Daniel Saunders was next up for IUPUI in the 1000 freestyle and the freshman delivered a 10:06.37 to place first.
Rich Sunkel followed Saunders with a win in the 200 free, timing in at 1:46.11, before Ferguson touched the wall in 21.86 in the 50 free to earn IUPUI’s third individual win of the meet.
From there, Carroll picked up a win in the 100 free posting the 10th-best time in school history at 47.03, and
John Kamphuis earned a win in the 200 back clocking in at 1:58.04.
Ferguson later earned his second victory of the night in the 200 breast at 2:08.78, the fifth-best time in program history. In addition to Ferguson,
Mitchell Gauger was the other lone dual-event winner capturing wins in the one-meter and three-meter dives.
The Jags will have nearly three weeks off until returning to action for the annual House of Champions Meet hosted at the IU Natatorium Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
