IUPUI LIVE! Video
INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will face a tall task on Saturday when the Jaguars host Summit League foe Oakland University at 7:00 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Oakland comes in ranked No. 46 nationally by TopDrawerSoccer and No. 6 in the NSCAA Midwest Region.
Saturday's match will be the second live broadcast of the season as Scott McCauley (pxp) and
Yogi Snider (analyst) call the action from high above the field. The broadcast can be viewed online or through mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads. Like all home soccer matches, admission is free and open to the public.
IUPUI (4-7-2, 1-1 Summit) is coming off a 2-0 loss at Omaha last weekend after having opened league play with a 2-1 home win over Eastern Illinois. Senior
Kyle Hyland continues to lead The Summit in goals (8), points (18)Â and shots (38) while both
Michael Sass and
Sean McGrath are tied for fifth in the league in assists with three each. Hyland has a pair of multi-goal games this season and scored six of his eight tallies at Carroll Stadium.
In net, freshman
Eduardo Cortes has continued to impress, piling up a league-high 74 saves in 12 starts.
Cortes and the Jaguars' defense will be tested by one of the nation's top offenses as Oakland (7-3, 2-0) comes in having outscored foes 28-14 in 10 games and 10-1 in two Summit League matches. Kyle Bethel, a UCLA-transfer, leads the way with nine assists while Miche'le Lipari has been one of the primary beneficiaries with five goals. All total, Oakland has nine players with multiple goals and 12 with at least one score this year.
Scott Messer has been the team's top goalie, registering a 1.51 goals against average and 32 saves in over 773 minutes work.
Oakland leads the all-time series 13-5-1 including winning the past two meetings in Rochester. However, IUPUI won the most recent meeting in Indianapolis, 2-1 on Oct. 2, 2010. That match stopped a nine-match winless streak against the Golden Grizzlies.
Fans are kindly asked to bring a canned good with them to Saturday's match as the IUPUI Athletics Department begins stockpiling non-perishable goods to contribute to a local food bank this holiday season. Â
