MUNCIE, Ind. - The IUPUI women's tennis team opened up its spring schedule on Wednesday (Jan. 19) night, falling to Ball State 7-0 inside the Muncie YMCA. The host Cardinals swept all three doubles matches before taking all six singles outcomes in the sweep of the Jaguars.

Abbey Neff and sophomore
Vanessa Whyte fared best but dropped an 8-7(3) count to BSU's Sarah Hebble and Ashlyn Rang. Junior
Alisha Cummings and rookie
Rachael Bridegroom fell 8-3 at the top spot and juniors
Shelby Hullett and
Jesika Bays were swept 8-0 at No. 3.
In singles play, BSU's Courtney Wild knocked off Cummings 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 while Hullett fell to Kristel Sanders at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3.
Whyte fell down a set to Rang at No. 3 singles, but rebounded to win the second set 6-3 before ultimately succumbing in three. The same was the case for Neff at No. 4. The freshman won the first set 7-5 before losing 6-3, 10-1 to Hebble. Bays and Bridegroom lost in straight sets at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. The Jaguars lost at home to Ball State a year ago with Hullett getting the lone point with a 4-6, 7-6, 10-3 win over Hebble at the No. 1 spot in the lineup.
The Jaguars will return to action on Friday, Jan. 20 when they head to Edwardsville, Ill. to take on SIU-Edwardsville at 4:30 p.m. Eastern at the local YMCA. The event marks SIUE's spring opener.
