VALPARAISO, Ind. - The IUPUI women's soccer team fell behind 2-0 and was unable to crawl out of the hole as it dropped a 2-1 decision to Campbell at Eastgate Field on the final day of the Crusader Classic on Sunday. Senior
Alicia Brock netted her second goal of the year to cut the Camels' lead in half in the 63rd minute.
The win gave Campbell the four-team tourney title after the Camels had beaten host Valparaiso 3-2 on Friday night .
IUPUI (1-6-3) fell behind in the 23rd minute when Kirsty Meyer rolled a ball over the endline on a sliding attempt after Hilliary Gupton sent a long pass into the 18-yard box. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kristin Haseley slipped on the wet turf trying to challenge off her back line, leaving the goal open for Meyer's second goal of the season.
Campbell (6-3) pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 58th minute when Ashley Clark drilled a 20-yard strike off the crossbar and over the endline.
IUPUI finally scratched with just over 27 minutes left to play when Brock blew past her defender before angling a left-footed shot past Campbell goalkeeper Ryann Torrero. It was the Carmel-native's 22nd career goal, putting her one shy of tying
Tara Latella for third on IUPUI's all-time list.
However, it would be all the offense the Jaguars would muster as the game was played in a steady rain shower. Brock narrowly missed scoring in the first half as she hit the crossbar in the 15th minute. Brock,
Megan Hock and
Taylor Heidorn led the way with three shot attempts each, but Torrero made six saves for the Camels to earn the win.
Haseley made four stops in goal for the Jaguars.
Brock, Hock and sophomore
Sarah Wong were all named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Jaguars will now open up Summit League play with a two-game road trip that swings through Missouri and South Dakota. IUPUI will play at UMKC on Friday (Sept. 30) at 5:00 p.m. Eastern, followed by Sunday's (Oct. 2) match at the University of South Dakota at 1:00 p.m..
