LEXINGTON, Ky. - The IUPUI men's soccer team yielded an early goal and a late one and never got on the scoreboard as the Jaguars dropped a 2-0 decision to Evansville in the opening game of the UK Tournament at the UK Soccer Complex on Friday night.

UE's (1-0) Aaron Henkle scored the game-winner in the fourth minute, capitalizing on an IUPUI misclear for his first goal of the season.

"We started well, but then we had a deflection of a shot that ended up in the back of the net," IUPUI Head Coach Isang Jacob said. "After that, our effort dropped."

Offensively, the Jaguars never truly found a rhythm as they were outshot 11-3 overall and 4-1 on frame. IUPUI's (1-2) first shot attempt didn't come until the 67th minute when Perez Agaba fired high from his forward position. Sophomore Ian Block had IUPUI's lone shot on goal, testing UE goalkeeper Eric Teppen with a try in the 72nd minute.

Evansville pushed its lead out to 2-0 in the 62nd minute when Jarrett Robbins scored from around the six-yard box, thanks to an assist from Brandon Causey.

"I thought we played better in the second half," Jacob said. "It was much better effort. I really think we need to step up and not respect teams so much. Evansville's a good team - a really good team. They knock the ball around well, but so can we. I don't think we competed as well as we're capable of."

Tad Kreamaimeyer led Evansville with three shot attempts while Teppen needed just the one save for the season-opening shutout. Senior goalkeeper Tyler Keever made two stops in the loss.

"The good news is we got some injured guys back and we'll be ready to go against Kentucky," Jacob said.

IUPUI will take on host Kentucky, which climbed to No. 21 in the national rankings after beating Dayton and Michigan last week. The Wildcats remained undefeated by knocking off Wright State 2-1 on Friday night.
