OXFORD, Ohio - The IUPUI women's soccer team opened up the 2011 regular season with a 4-0 loss at preseason MAC favorite Miami (Ohio) on Friday night at Miami Soccer Field. Both Kayla Zakrzewski and Katy Dolesh scored twice for the host RedHawks as Miami scored twice in each half.

Miami dominated play by outshooting IUPUI 17-3 overall and taking six more corners (8-2) than the Jaguars. IUPUI's lone shot on goal came from freshman Anna Rode in the 53rd minute, resulting in an Allison Norenberg stop.

"We just didn't come to play today," IUPUI Head Coach Chris Johnson said. "We didn't challenge the ball like we needed to. We definitely need to up our attitude and determination in terms of going for the ball if good things are going to happen for us.

"Not to take anything from them, they've got a good team. But there were a lot of little things I thought we had addressed that we didn't take care of today."

Miami (1-0) took the 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when Zakrzeswki blasted a shot past sophomore goalkeeper Giselle Guzman, scoring unassisted for the game's first goal. Just under four minutes later, Dolesh made it 2-0 when she headed a shot past Guzman off an assist from Amanda Filian.

IUPUI didn't get a shot attempt off until the game's 26th minute when senior Megan Hock had an attempt go wide left.

The RedHawks kept the heat on throughout and made it 3-0 in the 70th minute when Zakrzewski got a shot past sophomore Kristin Haseley. MU forward Jess Kodiak played a through ball forward to Zakrzewski, who was able to chip a shot past Haseley who was closing on the ball from her back line. The final tally came in the 75th minute when the RedHawks benefited from a short restart near the Jaguars endline. Zakrzewski played the ball in before Dolesh got the final touch past Haseley from in close.

Guzman made one save before giving way to Haseley at halftime. The Zionsville-native made three second half stops in the loss.  Dolesh and Kodiak led Miami with three shots each. Despite the heavy shot deficit, Johnson still had praise for some of his attackers.

"I thought Megan (Hock) was dangerous by herself running down the field," Johnson said. "Beyond that, there was not a lot of good stuff going on.

"Anna Rode came in and gave us some good stuff and I thought Karin Demo came in and gave a good level of effort off the bench."

IUPUI will head to Terre Haute, Ind. on Sunday to take on the Indiana State Sycamores at 1:00 p.m.. ISU dropped its season opener at IPFW on Friday, 1-0.
