MILWAUKEE – Coming into Saturday’s match at Marquette, the IUPUI women’s tennis team was looking for its third win in its last four matches, but the Golden Eagles defeated the Jaguars 6-1 Saturday evening.
The match between the two programs was originally scheduled to be played in early February but had to be postponed due to a blizzard that hit the Milwaukee area.
Danielle Haefele and
Alisha Cummings tried to get IUPUI back on track in the last of the three doubles matches, but the duo fell by an 8-2 margin, giving Marquette the doubles sweep.
Unfortunately for the Jags, things did not get much better in singles action as the Golden Eagles captured straight-set wins from the No. 1 spot through the No. 5 position.
IUPUI’s only win in singles play came at the No. 6 position where Bays won by default.
The Jaguars have 11 days off before returning to action on Thursday, April 14, against IPFW in Brookings, S.D. The match is the first of four conference matches for the Jags that weekend. In addition to facing the Mastodons, IUPUI also will square off against Oral Roberts (April 15), Western Illinois (April 16) and South Dakota State (April 16).
