INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women's tennis team continued its busy weekend with two matches on Saturday, but it was unable to get into the win column losing to Houston and Western Michigan each by a 7-0 margin.
In the opening match against the Cougars, the Jags got off to a tough start losing its No. 1 doubles match, 8-4, before having their No. 2 doubles duo fall, 8-0, as Houston secured the doubles point.
IUPUI's No. 3 doubles team of
Jesika Bays and
Shelby Hullett looked to salvage a win in one of the three matches but ultimately dropped an 8-4 decision.
The Jaguars best chances for wins in singles action came at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions with Hullett and Bays, respectively
After falling behind one set to none with a 6-3 first-set defeat to Celia Fraser, Hullett rebounded with a tough 7-6 second-win to even things at one set apiece forcing a tiebreaker. In the race to 10 points, Hullett just could not string together a rally and fell 10-3 in the extra frame.
Bays went to a third and decisive set at the No. 6 spot against Jo Garvey with Bays cruising to a 6-2 first-set win, but Garvey got into a groove and used a 6-3 second-set win, before winning the third set 6-1 to close out the win.
Danielle Haefele,
Vanessa Whyte,
Alisha Cummings and
Lee Matthews rounded out the match falling in straight sets as the Cougars completed the 7-0 victory.

In the nightcap against Western Michigan, things didn't get much better for IUPUI with its top two doubles tandems falling, 8-2 and 8-0, respectively, placing the Broncos on top, 1-0.
Bays and Hullett tried to give IUPUI some momentum heading into singles play with a win in their No. 3 doubles tilt. The duo was locked in a tight match that went to a tiebreaker, and they picked up some key points in clutch spots to eventually win the decisive tiebreaker, 7-5.
However, at the top of the singles order, Hullett, Haefele, and Whyte fell at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 positions clinching the victory for Western Michigan.
The Jags tried to salvage a point at the bottom of the lineup but the Broncos proved to be too strong winning the final three singles matches in straight sets to complete the 7-0 win.
