PEORIA, Ill. – The IUPUI women’s tennis team suffered its first road loss of the season on Friday, Feb. 18, but bounced back in a big way with a 5-2 win at Bradley Saturday afternoon in Peoria, Ill.
The win was IUPUI’s first of the season upping its record to 1-6 on the young season.
“The match was definitely a nail biter,” said head women’s tennis coach
Cameron Currie. “It's a learning experience with every match we play. We had an awesome effort tonight and we really played well under pressure”

The No. 2 doubles match wasn’t as easy with
Vanessa Whyte and
Danielle Haefele finding themselves in a tighter match. However, the duo used a break to take down the No. 2 Braves tandem, 8-6, to secure the coveted doubles point.

Despite already capturing the doubles point,
Jesika Bays and
Shelby Hullett made quick work in No. 3 doubles blanking their opponents, 8-0.

Needing just three wins in singles action to pick up their first win of the season, the Jags used a 6-3, 6-4 win from Whyte in No. 2 singles and 6-0, 6-1 win from Bays to quickly pick up two points.

Hullett and Haefele lost in the No. 1 and No. 4 spots, respectively, but Cummings and Matthews each picked up three-set wins leading IUPUI to its first win of the season.

IUPUI continues its road trip next Friday (Feb. 25) when it travels to Cincinnati, Ohio, to square off with Xavier. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
