ELMHURST, Ill. - IUPUI senior swingman Alex Young has been named The Summit League Men's Basketball Player of the Week and the Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 23. Young led the Jaguars to intrastate wins over Ball State and Valparaiso before the Christmas holiday. The league's weekly honor is the fourth of Young's career and second of the season while it's the first time he's ever earned the Henson National Player of the Week.

The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major Player in Division I college basketball, with a weekly honoree chosen each week during the season. He becomes IUPUI's first-ever recipient of the weekly honor.

The 6-foot-6 Young averaged 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocked shots per game in the wins over the Cardinals and Crusaders at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Versus BSU, Young had a game-high 22 points and grabbed seven boards to help the Jaguars avenge an earlier loss to the Mid-American Conference foe. On Friday (Dec. 23) against Valpo, Young netted a game-high 27 points and dished out a season-high six assists to go along with five boards, three steals and two blocked shots.

With the wins, IUPUI improved to 7-3 all-time when hosting on the Indiana Pacers' home floor.

Young, the NCAA's active career scoring leader, upped his total to 1,915 points in his career and is now ranked 12th on The Summit League's all-time list. For the year, Young ranks fourth in The Summit in scoring (20.1 ppg) and sixth in rebounding (6.6 rpg). He also ranks in the top 15 in free throw shooting (4th - 82.8 percent), blocked shots (5th - 1.0), three-point field goals made (8th - 1.9/game) and steals (14th - 1.3 spg).

The Indianapolis-native is currently fourth on IUPUI's all-time scoring list and needs just 14 points to surpass Hall of Famer Jesse Bingham (1985-89) for the No. 3 spot.
