ELMHURST, Ill. - IUPUI senior swingman
Alex Young has picked up yet another preason honor, this time being awarded by CollegeHoopsNet.com. The 6-foot-6 Indianapolis-native was named Preseason All-Summit League by the website, joining Frank Gaines (IPFW), Reggie Hamilton (Oakland), Dominique Morrison (ORU) and Nate Wolters (South Dakota State). The second team consisted of Damen Bell-Holter (ORU), Ceola Clark III (Western Illinois), Jordan Dykstra (SDSU), Warren Niles (ORU) and Steven Roundtree (ORU).
Young was previously voted The Summit League Preseason Player of the Year by the league's coaches, media and sports information personnel.
He's the top returning scorer in the nation with 1,633 points in his college career, ranking fourth in school history. A year ago, the lefty pumped in 19.7 points and grabbed 6.4 rebounds per while scoring in double-figures in all but one contest. The Indianapolis Northwest-product hit 48 percent from the floor and 73 percent from the foul line and also collected a team-high 45 steals and 26 blocked shots. Young was named First Team All-District 12 by the NABC and earned his second straight First Team All-Summit League award.
Young flirted with the notion of entering into the NBA Draft before ultimately deciding to return to IUPUI for his senior year.
He recently led his White squad to a 99-88 win in the Red-White Scrimmage, finishing with a game-high 30 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in 38 minutes. He and the Jaguars will open the exhibition slate on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when they host IU East in the Jungle at 7:00 p.m..
