CEDAR CITY, Utah - The IUPUI women's soccer team registered its first shutout of the season and snapped a three-game scoreless streak with a 2-0 Summit League win at Southern Utah on Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon. Senior Alicia Brock netted the game-winner in the first half and classmate Karin Demo added insurance in the second.

The victory snapped IUPUI's 11-game winless streak, dating back to late August.

"We've glad to get that monkey off our back," IUPUI Head Coach Chris Johnson said. "Every streak starts with one. It just feels good to get one on the winning side of the ledger. It was a full team effort. The altitude has a different effect on everybody, so it really was a full team effort."

Brock got IUPUI (2-10-4, 1-4-1 Summit) on the board in the 22nd minute, taking a through ball from Sarah Wong and later finishing the breakaway opportunity for her third goal of the season and eighth career game-winner. It was her 23rd career goal, tying her with Tara Latella for third-place in school history on the career goals scored list.

"That goal probably did calm us down a little bit," Johnson said. "We've been able to create chances, but it was good to get one to finally go in the back of the net."

Later, Demo netted her first-ever goal in the 58th minute to give the Jaguars some cushion the rest of the way. Brock played the ball to Demo out wide left who flared a shot over SUU (2-9-3) reserve goalkeeper Charly Booth.

In goal, sophomore Giselle Guzman registered her second career shutout, making a career-high nine saves in the process.

"Gigi played really well," Johnson said. "She commanded her line well and everything inside the six, she punched out of there."

Guzman faced considerable danger to start the second half, but left unscathed with the wind at her back. SUU outshot the Jags 12-8 overall including three shots each from Elyse Osborn and Stacey Brinkman. Brock led IUPUI with four shot attempts.

"It was a little scary at the start of the second half, but we hung in there," Johnson said. "We had the wind at our back, so we really just tried to clear the ball and make them have to come at us into the wind."

Johnson used his entire roster on Saturday, including giving some minutes to reserve goalkeeper Kristin Haseley in the field at the end of the first half.

"We used four different formations today just to try and keep fresh legs in there," Johnson said.

The victory was IUPUI's first true road win since Sept. 4, 2010 when the Jags won 3-0 at the University of South Dakota. Since then, IUPUI had gone 0-12-1 in true road matches.

IUPUI will head home before hitting the road for a single-game at Western Illinois on at 1:00 p.m. Eastern next Saturday (Oct. 22).
