CHARLESTON, Ill. - The IUPUI men's soccer team outshot the homestanding Eastern Illinois Panthers on a muggy Wednesday evening, but came up short in a 1-0 loss at Lakeside Field. Eastern, which will join The Summit League in men's soccer beginning in 2011, recorded its third straight shutout in the win.

"I take full responsibility for today's game. This one's on me," IUPUI Head Coach Steve Franklin said. "I didn't prepare my team to the best of my ability and put them in a position to win.

"(Eastern Illinois) worked extra hard and took advantage of us in the back and that was the difference in the game."

IUPUI (3-4) created some quality opportunities against the Panthers by outshooting their foes 16-11, but was unable to find the back of the net. In the 38th minute, sophomore Denny Moynihan had a header miss just wide of the left post. Less than two minutes later, an EIU (3-3) defender cleared an Ian Munro attempt off the back line to keep the game tied.

Junior Perez Agaba had a shot from just inside the 18-yard box go wide of the left post in the opening minute of the second half, marking the Jaguars' final shot attempt before EIU went in front. The Panthers took the lead in the 51st minute when Kyle Bullock scored after an assist from Ryan Child. Child worked up the right flank before spotting Bullock, who slotted a shot past Tyler Keever from 15 yards out.

IUPUI kept some heat on EIU goalkeeper Sean Molony as Matt Guy forced the netminder into a nifty diving stop in the 66th minute, setting up a Kyle Hyland corner kick. The Jaguars were unable to threaten on the ensuing restart.

The Jaguars final chance of the day came in the 82nd minute when Jeff Keyler had beaten Molony, who had slipped on the turf, but was unable to get enough mustard on his header attempt. The ball rolled within a few yards of the endline before an EIU defender was able to clear the shot away.

Moynihan and Agaba led the Jaguars with four shots each and Bullock led the hosts, putting two on frame. Keever made five stops in the loss while Molony needed just one save in the victory.

IUPUI will now return home to open Summit League play against Western Illinois on Saturday at Kuntz Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and IUPUI students are admitted for free with a valid JagTag. In addition, live stats will be available at the start of the match.
